The Philippine Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (PH-EITI) celebrated its 10th year anniversary by hosting the Extractive Transparency Week (ETW) 2023 with assistance from the USAID Regulatory Support Program for National Development (RESPOND) through the UP Public Administration Research and Extension Services Foundation, Inc. (UPPAF). The event which was held at Seda Manila Bay, Paraรฑaque City, Metro Manila from November 28 to 30, 2023 drew over 130 participants from government agencies, mining industry players and civil society organizations The ETW events showcased good governance, transparency, accountability, and robust public engagement across the oil, gas, and mineral resources sectors.
The ETW culminated in the FORGE PH: 2023 PH-EITI National Conference, wherein the presentation of the latest EITI country report for the Philippines fostered in-depth discussions on pivotal topics encompassing responsible resource governance, sustainable development, and the legal landscape within the extractive industries. Mr. Rafael April S. Rivera, RESPOND's Deputy Team Leader and Urban and Environmental Planning Specialist, delivered valuable insights during a panel session, stressing the pivotal role of robust research, data-driven initiatives, capacity-building programs, and collaborative partnerships in ensuring and perpetuating effective public engagement within the extractive sector.
